Getting Started
What Faker Forge does, core concepts, and first successful run.
Getting Started
Faker Forge helps you generate realistic database data, mock APIs with controllable scenarios, and automate both through MCP tools.
What You Can Do
- Import SQL schemas or migration-like definitions.
- Generate realistic rows: value profiles give statuses, prices, emails and addresses that look like production data.
- Keep referential integrity: foreign keys, unique and composite keys are enforced, and exports list parents first.
- Chat with the Data Assistant to reshape values, relationships and row counts in plain language.
- Edit faker mappings before re-generation.
- Export generated output as SQL, JSON, CSV, or XML.
- Build mock APIs with per-endpoint scenarios.
- Connect AI agents via MCP for generation and mocking workflows.
- Push generated rows straight into Postgres or MySQL with the FakerForge CLI.
Product Areas
Data Generation
Use schema parsing, faker mappings and value profiles to produce realistic, insert-ready records quickly. The Data Assistant on each schema page lets you refine them by chatting.
API Mocking
Create mock endpoints with scenarios, status codes, delays, and headers.
MCP
Use authenticated MCP tools so agents can list schemas, generate and shape data, manage relationships, export, and manage API mocks.
FakerForge CLI
Prefer the terminal or need data inside a private database? Install the CLI and run login, connect, schema pull, and push — your DB credentials never leave your machine. See the FakerForge CLI guide for installation and every command.
First Successful Run
- Go to Generate and upload or paste your schema.
- Open a parsed schema page and confirm detected tables.
- Set per-table row counts and mapping preferences.
- Run generation, then check sample rows in Preview.
- Optional: open the Assistant and ask for changes, for example "make most orders completed".
- Open Export and download your preferred format.
Key Terms
- Schema: A parsed database structure used as generation input.
- Mapping: Faker method selection for each column.
- Value Profile: A description of realistic values for a column (weighted values, patterns, ranges, derived values) used when generating rows.
- Data Assistant: The chat on the schema page that changes profiles, relationships and row counts for you.
- Relationship: Parent-child foreign key linkage used during generation.
- Mock: A named API surface with one or more endpoints.
- Scenario: A conditional response variant for an endpoint.
- Codebase Identifier: Stable project key used by MCP to reuse schema or mock context.
